Non-Fiction Texts Homework
Sent home: 9/23/13 Due: 9/27/13
Students were sent home with a National Geographic for kids magazine today with a giant spider on the front. This week students are asked to read the whole magazine and take notes on the first, feature article. The note-taking page attached in the document below was sent home as well. Students read the article about spiders, take notes on the page, and read the rest of the magazine on their own. This is due Friday.

Book Bingo Board
In an effort to help students read a wider variety of genres, one of students' long term assignments is to make a bingo on their book bingo form. Students must read a total for five books. So, five of the 25 squares might be filled out. Since this is the first time doing this assignment and it is a shorter time before the due date, students may include books that they have read since the beginning of this school year. The books must make a bingo (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal), so there are 12 options on the board. Some of these book genre choices are also quick reads or picture books. So, those are books that students can read in a day. I do want students to be reading chapter books as well, though. Students must take an AR test on three of the books to prove that they have read them. This assignment is a long term, at-home project and is due on Tuesday, October 15th.
